Associate Attorney Opening Effective May 1, 2010
The firm has an immediate opening for an attorney to practice in its estate planning/corporate law areas. The corporate law portion of this position consists of transactions, incorporations, shareholder agreements, contracts, as well as copyrights and trademarks. The estate planning responsibilities include preparation of business owner estate planning, wills, trusts and estate administration. This position involves a significant level of responsibility for assisting the firm’s business owner clientele and facilitating proper upkeep of corporate and owner personal estate planning documents and utilization of proper estate planning techniques to minimize federal and estate taxes.
The firm is seeking an associate with 2-5 years experience. Salary will be based upon experience.

The position involves a high level of client contact based upon the firm’s size. This is an excellent opportunity for an associate attorney to assume significant responsibility.
The firm attempts to advance each attorney based upon their success in achieving basic firm goals and client service needs, the attorney’s attitude, work ethic and the ability to work well with others.
The attorney in this position will be expected to assist in marketing of the firm’s practice to existing and new clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for the associate to deal directly with clients in matters of significance. In many cases the performance of the firm in these areas is the foundation for engagement of the firm in other matters. The Associate will work closely with senior attorneys in performance of the work, and will receive specialized training from the firm’s own experience and by outside specialized seminars and courses.

The firm is a growing litigation and business firm which was established September 1, 1998. Since that time, the firm has consistently focused on litigation and business practice. The firm has been successful in recruiting and retaining its insurance defense practice and corporate clients. The firm regularly represents insureds for St. Pauls/Travelers, Northland, Old Republic and Navigator Insurance Companies. The firm’s local and regional clients include the clients listed in the firm’s client list. The firm enjoys regular work from business clients from firms having employees numbering from 15-300 employees. The firm provides collection services to its business clients, and estate planning services to business owners and individuals, and commercial real estate services and employment law advice and representation.
Substantial opportunities exist to expand the firm’s services within the existing client base, as well as additional opportunities based upon the growth and expansion of businesses within the Charlotte region. The work received from existing clients and the potential growth from new or expanding client needs is significant, and creates the need for the current position, as well as projected needs for future attorney positions with the firm. Growth and responsibilities undertaken with clients also permit a significant degree of responsibility to be given to the firm’s associates. The continued growth of the firm creates both the need and the opportunity for further specialization and rapid professional development of the firm’s attorneys. New associates will have significant client contact and responsibility for case handling. Associates are expected to take responsibility for client development and marketing.
The Firm's Management And Style
Because the firm is small, it places a premium upon its culture of a relaxed and friendly interaction between attorneys and clients and attorneys and staff. Associates are expected to treat staff with respect and courtesy. Associates further enjoy the benefit of a structured workload and regular meetings to determine case progress and to assess attainment of financial goals. Care is taken to avoid unreasonable expectations in terms of workload and interference with family life. Six-day work weeks are the exception and not the norm for associates. At the same time, reasonable billing goals are established for associates to provide incentives and provide for associate progress. Care is also taken to avoid disruptive criticism and environments for the associate. Office systems are in place to minimize mistakes and to support the associate’s assumption of responsibility for case handling. The firm enjoys spacious and well-appointed offices in a suburban location, with an ample conference room and up-to-date computer facilities, Knowledge Management and other software. The firm strives to control cost for services through aggressive use of new technologies.

The firm will provide continuing support to its associates, including ongoing payment of professional dues, membership in specialty organizations and publications and CLE training expense. Among associate expectations is a minimum three-year commitment to practice with the firm.
